Sharpening Character, Forging Courage

Issue #1: Godly Men

Welcome to Iron Faith

Hello Readers,

Welcome to the inaugural edition of Iron Faith! This newsletter came forth out of the need, first, to keep me on track to focus my eyes on God, and second, to help grow as Christians—molding faith, character, and purpose. As Proverbs 27:17 says, “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another” (ESV). We will strive to grow as we tackle life’s challenges and rise to the call of godly manhood!

This Week’s Focus: Godly Men

Becoming a godly man is the cornerstone of this newsletter. We must begin here, as it is the foundation for everything. A godly man focuses his heart and mind on the Kingdom of God. Amidst trials and tribulations, he looks to the cross for guidance and strength.

This truth became very real to me during a season of struggling with sin and uncertainty about the future. God revealed that looking at the cross isn’t merely a concept — it’s choosing to face sin and hardship through Jesus. My background is Pentecostal, and I fully believe in the work of the Holy Spirit, as does my church. During that time, God confirmed this message through a vision shared by a woman at my church. Through it, He reminded me that placing my faith in Christ and trusting Him is what carries me through pain and struggle. That moment became a practical and powerful reminder that even in the deepest valleys, the light of Christ still shines — and I wanted to share that with you.

Quick Devotional

Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV): “You are the world’s light. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

As we embrace godly manhood, we are called to be a lighthouse, reflecting Christ’s light into this dark world. Lighthouses stand tall and alert ships through the fog to guide them to the harbour and away from danger. We must also guide those around us to God’s truth, love, and strength. Through the fog of trials and tribulations, our light shouldn’t dim but grow, creating opportunities to reflect God’s power and grace more fully. Being a godly man is about living life in such a way that others can see Christ’s light illuminating through us!

Prayer:

Lord, we come before You humbly asking You to work in our lives. Clean our eyes, hands, bodies, and minds to be used for Your Kingdom. Let us be a light to those around us. Give us perspective on the trials and tribulations we face, to show others that through hardship, Christ’s light can still shine through us! Let us be men according to Your will! I pray all these things in Jesus’ name

Amen!

Iron Sharpens Iron: Action Step

Take a moment this week to reflect on the areas where we could polish our mirrors so that God’s light shines through without being diminished. Maybe it’s our attitude at work, something at home, or conversations with strangers. Write down the areas where we can grow and commit to changing our outlook on those situations.

Looking Ahead:

Next week, we’ll explore “Strength in Service: The Power of Humility.” Stay tuned!

Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another” (ESV).

Until then, stay sharp and stay strong.

Blessings,

Alexander Gavris
